It’s safe to say that I’m a (self-proclaimed) California girl and that LA is officially my second home (no, not moving to Cali just yet, mom!). It is definitely my new favorite destination. I feel completely at home here, love the fact that the sun never disappoints and the relaxed beach vibe just makes me happy. Did I mention that I totally know my way around and (ok, almost) don’t need my navi app? (‘four-oh- five’ and I10, I know how to find you babes). And yes I’m aware that this is LA post is numero five on the blog. But there is still so much awesomeness for me to discover in The City of Angels. For this weeks post I visited yet another cool LA neighborhood, Abbot Kinney Boulevard near Venice Beach. The locals named this street ‘the hippest street in the USA’ so of course I had to take a look. AK is indeed a very cool street that you really need to visit. No trip to LA planned yet? Well, continue reading!
Abbot Kinney Boulevard is near Venice Beach. If you’ve never been to Venice Beach, by all means, go and have a look. Just make sure you leave before the sun sets (around that time the vibe changes and gets a bit gloomy). No need for the ‘fear of missing out’ if you don’t go as you’ll only find a lot of cheap souvenir shops and many, many tourists here. So, just Instagram the Venice street sign (Insta gold) and get your behind to Abbot Kinney Blvd, stat!
Let’s get it started! Already found the first vintage store on my list. Venice Vintage Paradise is a house hold name overhere. When entering the store, you will be greeted by a friendly buffalo (he means no harm) and your shopping experience will begin from here. Expect lots of oldskool vintage, furniture, flags, clothing, accessories and memorabilia together with a impressive selection of Mexican rugs. 2304 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
Love this store! The Piece Collective. First of all, I need my apartment to be exactly like this ( I already have the branch to use as a clothing rack). And second, I wanted to buy everything they were selling! Woolen throws, Colombian Mochilla bags, perfume for the house and jewelry, you’ll find it all here. 1629 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
Getting around by bike is a very Venice thing to do. Stay in shape and save parking money. Want to get a hipster bike? (yes, they exist) You’ll find many at Linus bikes. 1413 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
Meditation wall..
Another cool store to spend hours at. Burro, your go to place for special gifts, books, t-shirts and stationary. 1409 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
Abbot Kinney Blvd is super laid back and has a cool vibe. I love the fact that there are only low rise buildings (it gives a sense of freedom and space). Some of the stores are situated at the back so don’t forget to have an occasional glance. You won’t find many high street brands (just Roots, Lucky Brand, Gant and that’s about it). So with cool coffee places, juice bars, stylish boutiques and the beach just around the corner, what’s not to like about Abbot Kinney? <3
Rule number one.. 😉
Shopping at Bountiful Antiques, is like shopping at a French flea market right in the middle of Cali. The prices are quite steep but it doesn’t cost a thing just to have a look. 1335 Abbot Kinney
Are you a food truck lover? And in LA on the first Friday of the month? Then AK is definitely your place to be. On First Fridays the boulevard turns into a food fest block party with plenty of food trucks choose from. Enjoy!
