LAW AND ORDER

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been doing this. Unconsciously (or maybe even consciously) without giving it a label. When I was four years old I decided I wanted to become a flight attendant. After flying to Curaçao every summer vacation I got obsessed about our Dutch pride and their bright blue uniforms. That’s what I wanted to become when I grew up. I kept that vision in mind and held on to it. If I wanted to manifest anything I visualized having it already in my life. And I had absolute faith that I would receive it. My wishes would always be granted. Sometimes very fast, sometimes it would take a little longer. To this day I still live by this universal law. The Law of Attraction. If you believe in it or you don’t, either way you’re right. It is always working for you or against you, depending on what you focus on. Even before this law became a hype I was already working with vision boards and notebooks. I would rip out my object of desire and put it up on a board or in a notebook. And every now and than I would look at it to get my wishes clear again. Or I would make wish list, or better said a list of goals. Ticking them off gave such a good feeling. It might sound very materialistic but the law doesn’t only work for getting things but also for getting certain experiences. I’ll tell you some more on how it works and how I use the Law of Attraction.

Ask me anything!

Step 1: determine what you want. Do you even know what you want? The other day I was working with this colleague and after the usual round of : ‘where do you live, do you work full time, do you have a boyfriend, kids?’ it quickly turned to the subject: ‘there are no nice men left’. ‘Well, what are you looking for in a guy?’ And she gave an entire list of what she did not want in a guy. ‘He’s not allowed to have this, or do that or look like so and so.’ She just ordered exactly what she would get…nothing. The Law of Attraction works very simple: concentrate on what you do want in stead of what you don’t want. And don’t be afraid to ask for it. Your words are very powerful! So why not make a list of what you are looking for in your dream dude. Write down: ‘has a healthy lifestyle’ in stead of ‘must not smoke’. And while you’re at it, take a look at yourself, are you fun to be with? Or are you a Negative Nancy? Think about it.. The LOA doesn’t work to ‘get’ a certain person by the way, because you can’t mess with ‘free will’.

Cause you gotta have faith

After you have determined what you want this is where it often goes wrong for many people. To keep the faith. I remember telling people I wanted to sell my old apartment and move to Amsterdam, preferably to a slightly bigger apartment. ‘That’s never going to happen, the housing market is really bad, bigger and in Amsterdam? Never’. Just a few reactions I received from people. Thank goodness I didn’t let all those comments get to me because I did manage to move to Amsterdam. Have the confidence and trust that you will get what you want even though you don’t know how. And please don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t do something (just like in the movie ‘The Pursuit of Happyness). Might be true for them, doesn’t have to be true for you.

Visualisation

Also a very good tool to manifest your desires is to do visualisation work. Go test drive the car of your dreams, see yourself doing your dream job or make that trip of a lifetime, go to the open house and walk around like you own the place. That’s a very powerful way to attract things into your life. I’m actually very visual myself and I love to make vision boards. Perfect for a lazy Sunday, get a bunch of magazines and start cutting and pasting. Powerful words, oneliners, beautiful pictures or anything you see and want in your life. Place your vision board next to your bed so that it would be the first thing you see in the morning and last thing at night. Oh and you might not want to place it where everybody would see it. I once had a vision board (or actually it was more a bulletin board) in the kitchen. People had such a laugh about the Mini Cooper with a cut out of my head on it, but I did get my wish!  ?

Grateful

This is where the magic happens: gratitude. You might have a wish or two. But be thankful for what you already have in life. You probably have a roof over your head, a warm bed, don’t have to worry about food and hopefully you’re healthy. Just think about the fact that someone on this planet would be happy with half of what you have. Gratitude brings more abundance in your life so take a moment every day to be grateful for what you have, and you will attract more of the good stuff. Gracias.

Action!

And the final step: action! That dream guy won’t just appear on your doorstep (unless your mail man is super hot). And nothing will happen if you just sit on the couch and visualize and hope really hard for the best to happen. You really have to take action. Every step you take, even if it is a small step will lead you in the right direction and closer to your dreams. The right opportunities and/or people will come along. If you want to be successful in business, go to those networking receptions, send out emails, create good content and let people know you exist. You might get a few no’s but eventually someone will say yes. Want to meet McDreamy? Feel good about yourself, radiate confidence (and a trip to the grocery store between six and seven pm might help #singleshour). Or why not try a dating app or site. No action, no results. I live by these simple rules and I can tell you that The Law of Attraction definitely works, always!
